The city immediately seemed fascinating to me, full of interesting\nsights, cute little places, great bars to eat and drink, but also full of\ncontradictions and discordant elements. I found a welcoming environment, a\nwarmth – even physically, with 40 degrees fixed for the first few weeks – and a\nwelcome I did not expect. Entering the Arsis house for the first time was a\nvery special moment, the children and young people were absorbed in their\nactivities and over the following days and weeks there was a slow approach, a\nmutual discovery made up of games, activities, glances, laughter, jokes and\nlittle mutual attention. With the older children it was easier to establish a\nrelationship immediately, thanks to the fact that both we and they speak\nEnglish and therefore we had a very easy time interacting from the beginning,\narriving now to have a beautiful relationship, to discuss small and big issues\nand to joke together every day. We had visits to the city’s museums, where it\nwas very interesting to discuss with them the beauty of the paintings and the\nemotions they arouse in each of us. We cooked a lot of dishes from different\ncountries, and it was wonderful to see the pride of the girls in telling you\nhow the dishes are made, what they are called in the national language and how\nthey are eaten. With the children, on the other hand, the game has helped us a\nlot to relate; you don’t need words to play simple games like UNO, the most\npopular game in the house, or creating simple bracelets with coloured threads.\nThrough small activities, you can bring out in every child the desire to play,\nto have fun in a carefree way. It is perhaps this very carefree attitude that\nhas amazed me in the children and young people of the House of Arsis; although\nlife has already presented them with a great many obstacles and difficulties,\nyou can see in them a desire to enjoy life to the full, to play, to have fun,\nto leave everything behind. During this month and a half, we also explored\nThessaloniki and its surroundings: from Ano Polis to the beautiful beaches of\nChalkidiki, from the white tower and the seaside promenade to the fascinating\nisland of Samothrace. They were wonderful experiences that I lived together\nwith the other volunteers and that allowed us to get to know each other, to\nchat and to find our equilibrium, sharing together wonderful landscapes,\ndelicious food, and small great adventures. All in all, I would say a wonderful\nfirst month and a half in Greece!<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":34559,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"ngg_post_thumbnail":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[37,40],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-36570","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-erasmus","category-european-solidarity-corps-solideers-iii-solidarity-actions-empowered-volunteers"],"acf":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/arsis.gr\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/36570","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/arsis.gr\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/arsis.gr\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/arsis.gr\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/arsis.gr\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=36570"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/arsis.gr\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/36570\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/arsis.gr\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/34559"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/arsis.gr\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=36570"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/arsis.gr\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=36570"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/arsis.gr\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=36570"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
