DIAVATA REFUGEE CAMP <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI\ndream of rain, i dream of gardens in the desert sand i wake in vain, i dream of love as time runs\nthrough my hands\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n Every time i look at this photo, in\nmy head sounds this song: \u201cDesert Rose\u201d\nby Sting. <\/p>\n\n\n\n In my\npersonal vision, metaphorically, living in a refugee camp is like living in a desert:\nyou\u2019re far from the city and your life lacks of whatever a person needs, from\nthe little things: a carefree outing with your friends, to the most important\nthings, like the possibility to study constantly or to go to the doctor… <\/p>\n\n\n\n I choose\nto be here, knowing that I will never change their situations in front of the\ndecisions of the biggest people of the heart: in front of the decision that\nsome passports are stronger than others or in front of the custom that having\nmoney is the access to happiness for many. On the other side migratory flows\nhave always existed and nobody will be able to stop it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n I choose\nto be here because I know that my presence for some people could be like a\nlittle sip of water in the desert, that will not completely quits your thirst\nbut helps you to go on, despite all. <\/p>\n\n\n\n In my\nfirst month I took my time to get to know people, places, colleagues and\nexplore the projects and his functioning. I went to Pilea and Oreokastro and I\nknew the shelters where ARSIS works with unaccompanied minors. <\/p>\n\n\n\n My last\nvisit was in the safe zone in Diavata Camp, the place where i worked until now.\nAlso in this case, the project is focused on unaccompanied adolescents, all\nmales, with the difference that they live everyday in the camp, so this makes\nlifes a bit harder. <\/p>\n\n\n\n For us,\nvolunteers, it\u2019s impossible not to be absorbed in the dynamics of the people\u2019s\nlife around, which are not allowed in this specific project. Children run in\nthe void and are the ones who least of all have the perception of how they are\nliving. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Adolescents’\nlives are different because they are already adults and many feel the\nresponsibility of their families on them. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n Boys of\nthe safe zone, since the first days, became familiar with me. They like to\nspend their afternoon playing together, (less fun to have school classes \ud83d\ude1b )\nor just to talk about what they need to say. For me, I am a woman, game moments\nturn into very competitive moments, but funny. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n Each boy\nhas his own particularity and not everybody participates in the activities.
