{"id":23145,"date":"2020-02-26T14:26:11","date_gmt":"2020-02-26T12:26:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.arsis.gr\/?p=23145"},"modified":"2020-02-26T14:26:11","modified_gmt":"2020-02-26T12:26:11","slug":"press-release-workshop-for-victims-of-torture","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arsis.gr\/en\/press-release-workshop-for-victims-of-torture\/","title":{"rendered":"Press Release: Workshop for victims of torture"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align:right\">Thessaloniki, 26<sup>th<\/sup> of February 2020<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&lt;&lt;Support for victims of torture in motion: experience,\nchallenges and concerns&gt;&gt; is the title of the workshop that is organized\nby ARSIS \u2013 Association for the Social Support of Youth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The workshop concerns refugees, immigrants and asylum\nseekers, who have fallen victims of torture due to war and civil conflict,\npolitical persecution, religious beliefs, national origin, gender and sexual\norientation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The tasks of the workshop will happen on the 28<sup>th<\/sup>\nof February, Friday, from 9 in the morning until 4 in the afternoon, in the\nhall &lt;&lt;Manolis Anagnostakis&gt;&gt; at the city hall, with the support of\nthe deputy mayor of social policy of the municipality of Thessaloniki.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Key thematic modules of the workshop are the\nassessment of the experience until now, the exchange of opinions and the\nshowcase of good practices, as well as the search for new ways to contribute to\nthe process of rehabilitation and integration of survivors of torture in\nmotion, while there will also be narrations from the very people that were\nsubjected to torture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The program for the support of victims of torture of\nARSIS began to operate from November 2018, under the funding of German Doctors,\nwhile, from September 2019, it is implemented through the PIER III-Protection,\nIntegration and Education for Refugees in Greece and Austria program, with the\nsupport of The Coca-Cola Foundation, and in collaboration with Caritas Austria.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The goal of the program is to provide psychosocial\nsupport and mental health services, as well as legal support services, to adult\nasylum seekers and refugees that have survived from torture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Indicative of the large number of refugees and asylum\nseekers that have survived torture and are living in the North of Greece is the\nfact that, until today, 130 participants have joined the program, men and\nwomen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The main countries of origin of the victims of torture\nare Syria, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan and African countries such as the Democratic\nRepublic of Congo, Sudan and Ghana.
