Studying\na master or getting a job are supposed things to do after studying a university\ndegree but, regarding the world-wide situation and the influences on us\n(socio-cultural, political, economic, as a like), I decided to come to Thessaloniki\n(Greece) for a volunteering period with EVS. The hosting and coordinating NGO\nis called Arsis, and it touch a great range of social issues; from safe-zones\nand working camps as a first step to provide the basic needs, to Shelters and\neducational programs that attempt to integrate on the Greek and European\nsystem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/arsis.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/lopez_october_2-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-21909\" width=\"185\" height=\"247\" title=\"\"><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Bearing that on mind, I have chosen to volunteer\nin a Shelter because I want to view on first-hand the situation of those\nunaccompanied who had just finished a rough process of emigration. Their\nsecurity and basic needs insurance was not provided in their countries so they\nhad to leave, many weight on their backs and a great challenge ahead. Languages,\nculture shock, loneliness and suchlike has to be overcome in order to integrate\nthemselves on these countries. Here we have the key, but not just the volunteer\nor the workers of this social organizations, but the whole community\nwhatsoever. To give important tools like human rights awareness, environmental\nconsideration, psycho-sexual and emotional well-being, etc., are essential\nthings to ensure the integration as part as of formal education like languages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/arsis.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/lopez_october_3-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-21910\" width=\"216\" height=\"287\" title=\"\"><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Arriving to the point of this report,\nhere is where I am situated, I started to teach Spanish and English languages\nin the Shelter of Pylea. However, as it can be anticipated, being in the\nshelter is not just in the classroom but \u201cliving\u201d with them and with the\nworking stuff, so a great range of activities can be done with them: personal\ntalks, guitar jams, sports activities, different workshops and the like.\nConcluding, these last month has been an introduction to the new country and to\nthe shelter, which has been successful at all but still too many things to\nimprove.
