The basic principles and available tools for the protection of children in the digital environment were discussed by MEPs, policymakers, experts, and civil society organizations working for children’s rights, including ARSIS – Association for the Social Support of Youth on Wednesday 17 April at the European Parliament.
The event entitled “Demystifying age-assurance to protect children online” was organized by the European Parliament’s Intergroup on Children’s Rights.
The discussion focused on defining how companies providing online and technology services should confirm the age of children before giving access to their services and the consequences for children’s healthy development of viewing violent and age-inappropriate images.
The use of technology for facial recognition and age verification is just one of the ways that can protect children in the digital environment and guarantee a child-friendly Internet.
