Description:

The program that will be offered in the centers of ARSIS follow the general directions of the harmonized approach and aim at the provision of knowledge, the development of skills and the adoption of the positive life attitudes by the children in a systematic and evaluable way. The curriculum that will be informed will follow the instructions of IEP and the directions of UNICEF experts team, but will also utilize the accumulated experience of the educational applications of ARSIS in the field of non-formal education.

Learning contents (main programme)

  • Ability to adapt and differentiate application according to the special educational needs of the population (age, previous school experience, level)
  • Build them based on learning outcomes and the analytical distinction between knowledge, skills and abilities
  • Compatibility with performance and teacher formative assessment tools
  • Standardization of educational activities in order to facilitate their implementation, evaluation and possible modification
  • Their joint application in the islands and Athens, so as to facilitate the exchange of implementation experiences and their evaluation

The main programme aims at empowering and preparing students in the period leading up to enrollment in formal education. The main goal is to acquire basic literacy skills metacognitive skills necessary for schooling. During their studies, students are assessed for possible special learning needs, while students and their families receive psychosocial empowerment and support. During the programme, information sessions are organized with parents on issues related to the operation of the education system and best practices in support of school attendance by the family environment. 

Upon completion of the programma and upon enrollment in formal education, students are referred to homework support programmes which have a daily duration of one hour and are combined with activities of acquiring social skills and creative employment in special workshops for a time that can range form one up to two hours daily. 

More specifically, we develop 3 training projects: 

– Compass & Compasito human rights’ trainings in local schools and educational institutes 

– Training of refugees’ community facilitators in educational matters. 

– Empowerment training of volunteers who will create a supporting network to schooling for refugees and families. 

All the above activities will be implemented with the active collaboration of local educational authorities and Municipalities.
