


On the occasion of the International Day of Democracy established on 15 September, unaccompanied and separated minors who are staying in the Safe Area at the First Reception and Identification Center of Fylakio Evros Region participated in a related activity organized by the Child Protection Team of ARSIS.
In cooperation with the group's lawyer , a discussion was held on the democratic constitution and its birth in ancient Greece. Terms and concepts such as the functioning of institutions and laws, citizens' basic rights, freedoms, and obligations were explained, and the importance of their participation in decision-making and the election of representatives.
At the same time, child protection officers discussed with minors the contribution of democracy to the creation of healthy social relations and its role in mental health, social cohesion, and well-being. Finally, the activity ended with an interactive discussion and a reference by the minors to their perception of democracy and the conditions prevailing in their country of origin.
The ARSIS Child Protection Team in Evros region (RIC Fylakio) operates under the program “Supporting Unaccompanied Migrant Children at the Northern Greek Borders and LesvosSafe Area (MERIMNA III – PROTECTION AT GREEK BORDERS)”, which is implemented by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Greece with the support of the Czech Republic.
